AppStar Picks, a review catalogue of 250+ Best Apps for Kids, launched a few days ago and you might wonder how it all started!
About a year ago, Nathalie, a mom blogger for kids’ apps - Fun Educational Apps - and Irina, a mom developer – AppGrade - started to discuss how difficult it was to find great apps for their kids. With over 500 000 apps in the AppStore it can be overwhelming to discover good apps for kids and the two moms started to brainstorm on how great it would be to have an app that would feature a list of "curated best apps for kids" that have been tested, reviewed and you can rely on to do the leg work.
Nathalie had the content since she has tested and reviewed hundreds of Apps for Kids and Irina had the know-how on how to create and develop a best in class database app. They decided to combine their expertise and created AppStar Picks, a universal app for iOS devices (iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch).
The initial app only contained reviews from Fun Educational Apps and the 2 moms thought it would be even better if AppStar Picks included reviews from other sites to give other moms and dads, teachers and educators a larger selection. The AppStar Picks team decided to invite other sites and soon it had 3 extra review sites known for their quality of reviews: Digital Storytimes by Carissa Kluver, Applicable2U by Andrea Gardner and Teachers with Apps by Jayne Clare and Anne Rachel. Each of these sites is run by people who are professionals and parents so they know how frustrating finding good apps can be.
It all started with a vision …and with hard work, heated discussions and one goal in mind – “offer a unique and innovative app to discover only the best apps for kids”, the Team made it!
